I bought this Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods Vegan Black Bean & Lime Soup, 3.4-Ounce Cups (Pack of 6) via Subscribe and Save after reading some of the great reviews…

Easy and tasty – one of my favorite McDougall meals!

As a vegan with not a lot of time, I’m constantly searching for quick and easy meal items to keep at my desk at work. Bonus points if it is relatively healthy. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this soup, and I have now placed another subscribe and save order. I have ordered some other McDougall dry soups or meals and they tend to be rather hit or miss. I am not a fan of the couscous selections, or the pad thai (although my 18 month old daughter does like the pad thai). Add room temperature water, microwave for 90 seconds, and then let sit for 6 minutes (or longer) to re-hydrate the beans. There are some beans that remain a little chewy, but I actually don’t mind it. This makes for a satisfying go-to lunch, and if you eat the entire “bowl” (which says 2 servings on the package) it is still only 340 calories and 2 grams of fat, but provides a whopping 24 grams of fiber and 18 grams of protein! My daughter also enjoys it. 🙂

Best one yet….

I have tried some of the other soups in this line and I thought they were all pasty tasting. This one is better tasting and it has more “food value”, unlike just eating some starchy noodles…you are actually eating FOOD here. The lime flavoring is a bit off, but it tastes pretty good with some hot sauce, salsa and crushed up pita or corn chips and a bit of guac. Nice for a quick, light lunch that sticks with you for a while. Kind of expensive though. You could easily make your own if you have a food dehydrator/mason jars and then put the flavors you want in it 😉 Hmm, me thinks I’ll try that….

The flavor is good, and I find I do not need to …

I bought these for lunch at work to use with the water dispenser, as I am trying to avoid the microwave – due to the line and for health. The flavor is good, and I find I do not need to add the entire flavor packet. The water needs to be at boiling point, and you do need to stir frequently and let sit. The container is NOT Styrofoam, which I appreciate, and an adequate portion size, as well as vegan. I will purchase again, as I found this price to be less expensive than purchasing through grocery store.

Great taste and price

I love using all of Dr. McDougall’s soups especially the Vegan Black Bean. They are better than can soup because you can control the amount of salt and spices. The black bean soup tends to be thicker, fills me up quicker and I love the taste. I buy it as a subscription item to take advantage of the 15% off. It is much cheaper than my local market.

So creamy and rich tasting.

It’s a hit. They are so rich tasting it’s hard to believe they are fat, meat, dairy, egg free. I find these to be lots more satisfying than the noodle soup. So delish with the right amount of lime and heat. I can’t find anything negative to say. They do have a slight, al dente crunch and you have to stir them pretty well after you add the water. The flavor more than makes up for it. I will definitely be ordering more.

My favorite of the McDougall soups!

This is my very favorite McDougall Soup (I also like the split pea a lot). It’s very hearty and filling! It says two servings but lets be real…most of us are eating it in one sitting. I love to keep these in a cabinet at work so on days I forget my lunch I can just run the hot water from the coffee machine in, let it sit and have a great lunch that holds me over. I am the queen of eating all day and this one stops me in my tracks for at least a few hours 🙂

Amazing for an instant soup. Totally the best DMRF instant soup…creamy texture, nicely spiced, filling. Wow!

I’ve tried several of the DMRF soup and products. Some of the soups were pretty bland and not worth repurchasing. Some I liked quite a bit–the split pea, the spring onion, the boxed vegetable, for example. This instant soup from the line is the best. I like it even more than then ready-to-serve bean one (I have that one at home, too, as well as the lentil of the boxed ones.)

Needs a bit of help but great tasting

OK, so here is the thing about this soup. It tastes great BUT it is so thick it’s like stirring mud and there are always clumps of unmixed beans no matter how I try to stir it. So why the 4 stars??? Well, I have learned to make this soup so it’s just perfect for me. I add the water to the cup and let it sit for a bit – then I take a pot and put in about a quarter or a cup of water and some picante sauce – once the soup is made I add it to the pot and I end up with spicy, thinner soup that is all mixed together with no lumps! Perfect!

Great Meal When Adding Salsa and/or Rice

By itself, this soup is not that great. However, if you add a couple big spoonfuls of salsa (I use Whole Foods 365 brand Black Bean and Corn) this soup becomes quite good. I eat it by pouring the cup over a bowl of brown rice and adding some Frank’s Red Hot Sauce and Black Bean and Corn Salsa and it is an absolutely delicious and extremely healthy meal. The protein to calorie ratio of this soup is excellent and it makes for a very filling meal.
