Great recipes for eggs
We are people who like to eat a decent breakfast every day. This usually includes eggs cooked in some form or another and then some other accompaniments. Lately, we have gotten a bit tired of scrambled eggs, fried eggs and poached eggs and went searching for some more creative things to prepare in the mornings. Chef Donna Leahy’s “Eggs for Breakfast” is an absolutely fantastic recipe book and it has helped put flavor and fun back into our morning meal. Not only is there a ton of information about eggs themselves, but the recipes are outstanding and so easy to follow. A few of our favorites are the Croque Madame and the Ham and Brie Souffle Roll. Great recipe book.
Eggs for Breakfast
This is a very solid and well-written guide for anyone getting started in the kitchen or otherwise. Ever since the FDA took eggs off the no-no list for cholesterol, I’ve been eager to find some good recipes to incorporate them back into my diet, and this book more than met my expectations. I was a bit surprised to see people leaving bad reviews based on the wordy writing style and simple explanation of basic egg skills, so I felt compelled to respond to that as well.
Beautiful, well written, and creative
Having recently started a low carb regime, I have been turning to eggs for breakfast a lot, so this book caught my attention. While not necessarily low carb, the book is beautifully illustrated and the recipes I have tried are creative, well written, and emphasize using fresh, local ingredients. I think eggs with bacon jam is my new favorite food! Many classic egg recipes are included and are clearly written to be de-mystified and easy to prepare. Homemade English muffins with your eggs Benedict anyone? Lots of helpful general information about eggs as well. Who knew that boiled eggs were easier to peel if not started in cold water? Or that the little stringy thing on the yolk Is called a chalazae? I just wish that I had gotten a print copy instead of Kindle, so it would be easier to use and I could better enjoy the pictures. It’s annoying that ingredient lists break across pages.
A really good “instruction manual” for the beginning cook but also good for those more advanced in cooking techniques. This book really summarizes the basic facts about eggs, how to use them and very nicely detailed instructions for the more complicated processes (like poaching). I love eggs and always look for ways to improve my cooking process for them. I highly recommend this book for most anyone who likes to cook or needs to learn more cooking techniques.
New ideas for making egg dishes
I really enjoyed this cookbook and finding new ideas on how to prepare eggs–I will definitely try some of the recipes. I loved the substitutions for the recipes that contained meat. There were some great photos, too, like the one of the egg coddlers (and I learned what coddled eggs were).
Great Take on Eggs!
This recipe book is pretty good! It’s very well written; easy to read and understand. The layout is sensible and there are lots of pictures. I like recipes with pictures. I think most people do.
I am totally satisfied with this book. The recipes are very easy to make and incredibly elegant. The pictures of each recipe help you a lot to get a good idea of how your finished recipes will look.

I love the traditional and not so traditional recipes in this book. I had forgotten how absolutely versatile the egg is and enjoyed the egg in the nest recipe. This is a very helpful little book.
