Full of excellent recipes and inspiration
This is an amazingly creative, yet easy cookbook. Not only are the recipes excellent and guilt free (hello, the protein brownies!) they are super simple to prepare. The color photos are excellent guides and, let’s face it, pretty tempting. But hey, who cares? I know that the recipes in this book are healthy and most of all yummy. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is either wanting to learn how to eat healthy or who already is and looking for new ideas. Jen proves that eating healthy doesn’t mean sacrificing taste or presentation. I love this book!
My time with celebrity fitness chef Jen Arricale
Before Jen came to visit, I would buy lots of fresh veggies and lean meats, with lots of motivation and ideas to cook great dishes for my family. Then I’d run in to a wall a day or so later. I’d quickly run out of ideas for meals, or I would get caught up in things and next thing I knew it was almost dinner time, and I had nothing but a fridge of items. Or worse, I’d begin to forget what I had scoped out for dinners throughout the week. I always ended up throwing much of the good stuff away. Jen introduced me to “batch cooking”. I set aside one morning, or afternoon, about 3-4 hours, at the beginning of the week, and I made 3-4 different meals that we could rotate through. We never ate the same thing two times in a row, which was great! Jen showed me little tricks such as keeping salad in a dry cereal container, in the fridge (it lasts for over 6 days, and is good…I actually eat leftover salad now!) Having salad ready to go, without having to pull 6 different ingredients out and cutting and shredding, allows me to eat a hearty lunch, topped with some already prepared protein (chicken or spicy flavorful ground turkey breast) and get out the door! She lead me to realize you don’t have to have breakfast food for breakfast! protein and veggies are good any time of day! Jen helped me turn my shopping and cooking regime into a real system. Her cookbook now has little hand written notes in it, and it always accompanies me to the grocery store. I find myself exercising little tips like “as your spinich is turning…freeze it! its great in smoothies, or pasta sauces! It may not seem like rocket science, but with four kids, jam packed schedules and lots and lots of “to do” lists, healthy cooking becomes a chore, and Jens presense in my kitchen has removed one stressor from the table. This book is not a book you’ll make one thing out of then toss to the side. Its a book you’ll make three things out of at once!
