INDECENT PROPOSAL

Years ago Ann Talbot had been forced to leave Heath Bodine without a goodbye. Now she was back, and though Heath still had the power to make her insides quiver with longing, he had changed. Yes, he was proposing marriage. But not out of love—out of revenge. And Ann knew she had no choice but to say yes.

Heath intended to make Ann pay for running out on him. But no matter how much he tried to deny it, living under the same roof and sharing the same bed with her was going to prove his undoing. Because he didn't just want her body, he wanted her heart as well…

One thing kept me from rating this 4 stars

In a blurb at the end of the book, the author writes she’s seldom been disappointed in a romance book. I can’t say the same. Actually, I’m more often disappointed than not. This is the first of Ms Malek’s novels I’ve read and I’ll admit upfront I would consider reading another. I liked this one.

Blinded by revenge and hurt…..

I enjoyed reading this story. Book had grammar errors, but they didn’t distract from the story too much. Story is about Heath who was the kid from the wrong side of the tracks and Ann who was the rich girl on the island. They met 11 years ago when Heath was working on her father’s boat. The attraction was instant. They fell madly in love even though she was only 17 and he was 19. They continued to see each other in secret and had planned to leave to Georgia, get married and live together. On the night they planned to run away, her father catches her and threatens to have Heath thrown in jail for statutory rape. She wanted to protect Heath so she agrees and moves away without a word. Heath waited and waited and she never came. Without a word, he joins the Navy the next day.

Hero with revenge on his mind

Even though Marriage in Name Only is an older novel and feels a little dated, it has a good story. The hero is a bit domineering but there is still a romantic chemistry between the leads.

The Hero Was A Craphead

Yep I said craphead….half the book I wanted to slap him upside his head the other half I wanted to shake him silly but it all worked out in the end. I was happy to see a heroine that was able to deal with it all and didn’t fold up or shiver senselessly when hero was in her company. This was a young love gone wrong due to family mistakes and manipulation. It was a strong story with good characters that entertaining. Needless to say I suffered much angst but I do love DOM’s books they never bore me. I recommend it and was glad to see it offered at a reasonable price. I have to admit they could have found better models for the cover he was too cleancut compaired to how I pictured him and she wasn’t as attractive as I pictured either. Oh well glad I have an imagination. Happy Reading and Enjoy.

I enjoyed this book very much and I can’t wait to read others by this author. This was an amazing story about a rich girl and poor boy. The girl had to give up the boy or else. Some people things it is too much money to pay for revenge but was it just for revenge or was it that he loved her and would do anything to get her. If you have alot of money and could spare it why not then. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance.

Best book by Doreen Owens Malek

This is the best book by this author that I have read so far. The blooming romance between the teenage Ann and young Heath is very sweet and their breakup is heartbreaking. Heath is not aware why Ann left him and assumes the worst case scenario– that Ann had dumped him because of his background. He becomes a self made millionaire, but revenge eats away at his heart. When his chance comes he forces Ann to marry him. He is tormented by his love for Ann, his distrust and his insecurities that his pitiful past has thrust upon him. Poor Ann, she bends backwards to accommodate her husband whom she has never stopped loving. But things come to a head. Will they be able to solve it?

Good Read If You Can Overlook the Implausibilities

 on February 12, 2012
By SC'sLola
I enjoyed this compelling story but had to deduct a star for some really big implausibilities in the plot–it is hard to believe the young Annie couldn’t think of any of the more obvious solutions to her dilemma or that a man would pay seven million to get revenge on a woman who betrayed him–to kill her, maybe; pay seven million for a forced marriage, nah. Kind of an idiot plot, but an entertaining read if you overlook the glaring implausibilities. The book improved greatly when the couple began to realistically try to deal with their differences to create a real marriage and family, with some help from their friends.

Revenge may not be sweet

I think this is the first book I have ever read where the hero goes into counseling, in this case to help him cope with the trauma of being a child of an alcoholic. It’s nice to see a hero that is not too macho to admit he needs help.

Fanciful

The story was a little odd in the beginning and had a Romeo and Juliet feel to it. I mean a father keeping apart to people meant to love each other. Also, I understand the sex was consensual, but the female lead was still being used in a weird type of way, which made the story hard to read at times. Overall, the twists and turns bring about a good finish, which rate a like versus an okay on the star scale.
