Great Affordable, Shaving Soap!

 on December 5, 2017

Just bought a DE Safety Razor kit (Kanzy Victory DE Safety Razor, GoBetter Chrome Razor Stand, GoBetter Badger Hair brush, 100 pack Astra Premium Stainless Steel DE razor blades) and wanted to be reasonable with the shaving soap, as I was leaning towards Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood or Cedarwood which is $17-19 for a tub!

I really like this soap

I am new to wet shaving and this is the soap many people start with and I can see why. Great smell, easy to lather with a little practice and lather is smooth and slick. It is inexpensive so you don’t feel bad about practicing with it, building lather and rinsing it out and trying again. The tub is good sized and holds a significant amount of soap. It will last a while. The green cup is convenient for face lathering in the shower or lathering in a mug at the sink. The smell is a great barbershop smell, not overpowering. I have recently ordered the red and the white Proraso soap as well along with the white preshave. I will try other products in the future, but this soap is more than adequate for my needs. Gives a smooth great shave, smells good, cheap, and convenient. Granted this soap may not measure up to some shave diva’s requirements, but I like it a lot and I expect to like the other Proraso products I have ordered. I recommend this soap.

I Really Like This Soap

I’m a wet shaving noob and this was the first soap I purchased. Once I got a decent brush, I’ve been able to produce some great lathers with this soap! Nice scent, nice packaging. I bought this particular item because I don’t own a shaving bowl yet – and this is packaged in it’s own bowl and was exactly what I was looking for. I would recommend this to any wet shaving noob – but remember… with all shaving products “your mileage may vary”. What works well for one person might be terrible for the next person.

Great for heads and guys with sensitive skin

This is perhaps one of my favorite purchases on Amazon. I shave both my head and my face with this soap. I had decided to make the plunge to shaving soap over a year ago. I have sensitive skin and could not find a foam/gel that worked well for me. My only complaint is that I feel the fool for ordering the second container almost 5 months ago. I have still not finished my first one. I was worried that I would run out so I ordered the next as a backup. To my surprise it still sits in my drawer. Not a big deal because it is as soft and fragrant as the day it shipped.

It Fixed my Face

This shaving cream helped to stop all the ingrown hairs I had using Gillette foamy and Edge gel. It really does provide the proper buffer between your skin and your razor.

Works ok, don’t like the smell or gunk left on blade. There are better and cheaper alternatives.

I see it has many good remand fans but I’m not one of them. Personally I don’t care for the smell at all, unpleasant to me. Secondly I found it difficult to rinse off my razor and there was a build up of gunk on the blade when I changed it. I rinse my razor in the sink full of water, not under he running faucet. The shave performance is ok but nothing spectacular for me. I actually far prefer the cheaper US made Van der Hagen hard soap you can get at your local grocery store, for the smell and performance. I suspect this Proraso is an inexpensive and easily available shave soap in Italy, and not some high end brand.

Started using a DE safety razor in January. Merkur 34HD. Have very sensitive skin. The Prorasso green is great stuff. Lathers quickly and stays moist for a three pass shave. No problems with razor burn or rash. Recommend to anyone with sensitive skin. I also use prorasso pre shave and post shave aftershave and balm. Have not settled on a blade yet. Used the Merkur (good), derby (good), Astra (good), feather ( good but too sharp).

Solid Shaving Cream

Overall a solid shaving cream. My go to shaving cream has always been Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood scented. This Proraso does not nearly smell as good to me as the sandalwood TOBS cream. It does give you a nice tingling sensation on your neck and face however, which the TOBS does not. I don’t think it lathers quite as well and is overall a bit thicker. I would rank this as number 2 when compared with the TOBS. I have also tried the Proraso cream that comes in a tube and was not a fan. I would definitely recommend the Proraso bowl over the tube.

Good solid product
