Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person. It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply. Scores of books have been written that offer guidance for building the marriage of your dreams. But what if God's primary intent for your marriage isn't to make you happy. . . but holy? And what if your relationship isn't as much about you and your spouse as it is about you and God?

Everything about your marriage–everything–is filled with prophetic potential, with the capacity for discovering and revealing Christ's character. The respect you accord your partner; the forgiveness you humbly seek and graciously extend; the ecstasy, awe, and sheer fun of lovemaking; the history you and your spouse build with one another–in these and other facets of your marriage, Sacred Marriage uncovers the mystery of God's overarching purpose. This book may very well alter profoundly the contours of your marriage. It will most certainly change you.

Because whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God, and to a spiritual integrity that, like salt, seasons the world around you with the savor of Christ.

A heart-to-heart about marriage

This is the marriage book I needed right now. Rather than tell me how I can change my marriage, this book talks about changing my heart. Too many marriage books assume that both spouses are going to participate in reading and enacting the steps given in the book; this is all about how my relationship with God is imaged and expressed through my marriage relationship. I feel the author “gets it”. There are no easy steps, no how-to-fix this, just a heart-to-heart talk about what marriage is really about. This is a breath of fresh air in a crowded and stuffy room full of advice and “answers”.

Life Changing

I always tell people that besides the Bible this is the best book I have ever read. Completely life altering for me. It changes the way you view your marriage and your parenting. We have a problem in our culture because Christians view their marriages as an institution designed to make them happy and when they are aren’t happy they try to find a way out. But for the Christian life isn’t about being happy all the time (and if you live your life that way you are going to be greatly disappointed in not just marriage but anything). So Gary poses this powerful question… What if my marriageis designed to make me holy more than to make me happy?

A must read for married or soon to be married folks

I am engaged to be married this year and I want to enter this union with a holy and biblical perspective. This book has opened my eyes to the purpose and meaning of marriage with the understanding that it is not about us, but completely about God and serving others. Marriage is the mirror of our humanness and requires sacrifice and work in order to minister to your spouse and others. I recommend this book to anyone that wants a biblical perspective on marriage.

Good Book, Not Outstanding

This book is good but it just didn’t seem to keep my interest up throughout the book. But then again, I’m not an avid reader either. It did make you stop and examine yourself and your motives in your marriage. It also made you thing about how God views marriage vs how today’s society looks at it and has cheapened its meaning to “what’s in it for me.” Overall it was a good book.

This gives some different perspectives to marriage that ALL should read. Yes, what if God did design marriage to make us holy rather than happy? We did this book/DVD as a group and everyone was so refreshed to read and talk about godly ideas that are often overlooked in marriage counseling. Often the counseling is about communication ideas and such. This is a must-read for all.

This book is one of my favorite marriage books. It not only has helped me grow closer to my husband but closer to God and it has helped me to even have better relationships. I have purchased it for friends and family and they also have it in Spanish. I recommend it to single and dating people as well. It’s good to read what God’s design is for marriage, what His heart is toward us, what He expects from us and how He helps us love one another as He love us! God bless and I pray it brings you closer to God and your spouse also!

Read with a heart wide open. This book can cause a personal heart change followed by a great marriage.

Too often we enter marriage with the fairy tale idea and we will “live happily ever after”. But then, the first big fight comes along and we decide that we are incompatible. When the truth is this fight is only exposing our own bent toward selfishness. If we open our hearts a bit, we can learn the lesson and improve our image of God and subsequently have an improved marriage.

This book is a must read! Not the typical marriage book. It is truly centered on our covenant with GOD before anything. Such a rewarding refreshing Godly view of what the unity of marriage should look like. Makes you stop looking to your spouse as the issue and reflect on your on walk and inner matured growth. I have sent this book to numerous married and single people. All have treasured the shift in perspective this book brings.

FANTABULOUS! A true and delightful picture of God’s purpose for marriage – Holiness, not simply happiness. A book that not only satisfies the soul of one in a marriage with frank and Godly explanations and examples, but a book that can be applied to any relationship. Surely would change the world if we would follow these Godly precepts of relationships all across the board.
